With temperatures exceeding 30°C, residents of Abruzzo are feeling the summer heat.

In an effort to understand just how hot our everyday surroundings are, Telemax measured the temperature of commonly encountered objects across Lanciano.

Armed with a trusty thermometer gun, we captured the effects of the relentless sun on our environment.

From pavements to car seats, benches in the main square to the walls of monuments and trees, no object was spared from the sweltering heat.

The experiment revealed that the pavement in Piazza Plebiscito can become a literal hotbed, measuring 51.4°C.  At noon, the asphalt temperatures rose to 63.5°C in the city center.

Walking barefoot or with pets on such surfaces can lead to painful burns, making it crucial to exercise caution and protect our feet and furry friends during the summer months.

If you want to escape the intense heat, you can seek refuge in the Cathedral of Madonna del Ponte, where the temperature near the altar is 26.9°C, which matches the temperature recommended by doctors for air conditioning in homes or offices.

If you want an even cooler temperature, you can go down under the cathedral, inside the Diocletian bridge. Here the thermometer measures decidedly cooler temperatures: from around 24 degrees to a more comfortable 19.1° in the room where tourists can comfortably watch a video on the city and its historical monuments. 

Lastly, temperatures were measured at a local café: for a traditional coffee, the temperature exceeds 40°C; however, for a shaken iced coffee, the temperature is much cooler, around 16°C
